Acupuncture is a proven, effective, evidence based and holistic system of healthcare, that supports the mind and body during its own healing process. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine dates back over 3000 years. Its main goal is to keep the body balanced and healthy by improving or aligning Qi and Energy flow within the body. This is achieved by stimulating specific acupuncture points (there are over 400) on the body with thin sterile, disposable, stainless steel needles. These points are found along the meridians or pathways (channels) of energy flow and are anywhere from the head to the toes and in between. When areas of the body are blocked, we have physical or emotional pain and imbalance.
Acupuncture works to stimulate points and unblock stuck energy, allowing one’s Qi/ energy to flow and restore balance. Scientifically Acupuncture releases endorphins and serotonin which are the bodies natural pain killing chemicals and mood boosters. Modern research has proven acupuncture’s effect on the immune, endocrine, cardiovascular, digestive and nervous systems. The whole process is incredibly relaxing and peaceful and keeps the mind and body healthy and happy for the long term.

There are so many benefits! An improvement in health, pain, mental status and just an overall relaxed and happy feeling are to name a few. Even after one session, a person just feels calmer and better. Acupuncture gets the blood and energy flowing, reduces pain, grounds the mind body and spirit and allows ones to check in with themselves. Acupuncture effects almost every major system and organ function in the body.
Of course you can and this is also beneficial for mom and baby for many reasons. Feel free to call and speak with Casey who has a lot of experience treating pregnant women, inducing labor and even treating small kids.
Acupuncture is very safe if performed by a competent, certified, licensed acupuncturist. The needles are sterile, used once, stainless steel and disposed of in a medical waste biohazard bin. .
Not usually, but some common side effects can include soreness, mild bruising or bleeding where needles were inserted. Also sometimes post treatment a person can feel lightheaded or fatigued. All of this is very temporary and most likely a person just feels calm and relaxed.
Everyone is different and everyone will have different result even for the same conditions. Usually, a treatment plan involves one time per week for about 4-8 consecutive weeks. Some people continue care even after their issues have resolved as this is great for prevention and well- being.
Yes! some insurance companies cover acupuncture. We are not currently in network with any insurance companies but if you have out of network care,
we can provide you with a superbill which the patient can self-submit to their insurance company for reimbursement. Best way to check is to call your insurance company, ask if there is out of network coverage for Acupuncture on your plan and also ask if it is diagnosis specific.

About Mikailah Muhammad
My name is Mikailah and I am a Licensed Esthetician. I received my Esthetics license from the Aveda Arts and Sciences Institute. I specialize in facials, waxing, and relaxation. Skin care & esthetics has always been a passion of mine and is more than just “work”. Having a career that I love and admire is a blessing that I am beyond grateful for.
When I was younger, I would experiment in the kitchen making skin products. Clay mask, oils, shea butter, lip gloss, and even sugar wax. Anything that came to my mind I made it . That was when I knew I wanted to become an esthetician. There are so many different factors when it comes to our skin. One of the most important being what we put in our bodies.
I believe internal is just as important as external. My goal is to not only treat but educate my patients to have a better understanding of their skin care needs. All while providing a safe and nurturing space for everyone to feel comfortable and confident in their skin.
Casey Corridan M.S., LAc. is a Nationally Board Certified, Licensed Acupuncturist (NCCAOM), Herbalist and Holistic Health Coach (certified by the Institute of Integrative Nutrition) who loves what she does for a living! Casey is authorized to practice as an Acupuncturist by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Board of Medicine. She Graduated with a Masters in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, in New York City, in 2008 and has been practicing ever since. When she sold her Acupuncture practice in NY and moved to Virginia in 2013 her goal and dream was to eventually open her own space of health and healing.
So, she now welcomes Corridan Wellness & Acupuncture Center P.C. with opens arms and an open heart and is excited to help her patients with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and other modalities of holistic health care.
Casey enjoys working with and has treated patients from all walks of life and addresses all sorts of medical issues. She specializes in pain management, fertility issues, women health and emotional stress disorders but of course treats anything that Acupuncture can benefit. Treatment, can sometimes simply open a blocked body, allowing energy to properly flow which recreates ones physical and mental balance. Chinese Medicine is a beautiful and effective medicine that always finds a way to help what needs attention. In Casey’s over 15 years of practice and counting, she has seen tremendous results for her patients.
With a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, she always wanted to help people open up about their pain and issues and was attracted to Chinese Medicine because it encompasses the whole person. Treating at the root and not just symptomatically, addressing how unmanaged emotional health can make us physically sick, while
focusing on prevention of further health issues.
This medicine benefited Casey when she was in her 20s and was treated with Acupuncture. From the first session ,it was life changing and so began a personal discovery and journey, that today she is still a part of, as she witnesses how this medicine helps people help themselves and transform their health.
She also treats with other modalities of TCM such as Cupping, Tui Na, Gua–sha and Moxa and uses Electrical Stimulation (E-Stim) on most clients. She is also certified in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture.
Casey is a busy mom to three little ones (who love receiving Acupuncture) so in her free time she enjoys quality time with her family. For exercise she enjoys spin and weight lifting. She loves nature, especially time spent by the water or beach as she grew up on the eastern end of Long Island in NY.
Owning a practice that is able to bring together all different but like-minded holistic health care Practitioners has always been a dream for Casey and her team. We can’t wait to help you on your healing journey.

Studies, Masters of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a Nationally Board Certified diplomat of Acupuncture (NCCAOM) and certified Reiki practitioner.
Angela first discovered Chinese Medicine during a semester abroad in China. She
saw a hospital department dedicated to treating solely with acupuncture, learned about food as medicine and the curative properties of herbs and teas. She recognized how the culture embraces health through many facets of life: diet, connection with nature, meditation, exercise, acupuncture and herbal treatments.
Later in life, Angela experienced a recurring skin condition that traditional medicine had no answer for. She sought treatment from a local acupuncturist, who properly diagnosed her allergic eczema reactions and successfully treated her. The reactions have not returned since! Angela’s treatments as a patient made such an impact on
her that she decided to learn how to practice this medical system and share in everything TCM has to offer.
Angela’s Approach
Often enough, and I’ve seen it happen so many times, acupuncture is the solution
to chronic and debilitating ailments where other treatments have fallen short. As a practitioner, my aim is to help patients seeking their own health answers by finding and treating the root cause of dis-ease and reestablishing health. Our bodies are smart. They tell us what they need through presentation of symptoms. Given the proper guidance and attention, acupuncture employs the body to direct healing toward the condition being treated. This means that acupuncture has the potential
to treat any imbalance, anywhere, however that may manifest.
Working with patients is a joy for me. Through alleviation of pain, restored mental health and balanced emotions, I have seen patients regain parts of themselves and
go on to live fuller, more enriching lives. Seeing the impact this medicine brings is always something to celebrate. Sharing in this practice is a continuous gift!
Modalities used in Angela’s practice: acupuncture, auricular acupuncture, slide
cupping, moxabustion, gua sha, herbal formulas, aromatherapy, electrical stimulation, lifestyle and dietary advice, emotional support

What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological system of the body called the craniosacral system. This system is comprised of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch, I release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the pulse and movement, increasing function of the central nervous system.
By complementing the body’s natural healing process, CST is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction including: Migraine Headaches, Chronic pain, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Scoliosis, Traumatic Brain and Spinal Cord Injury, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Stress, TMJ, and more.
Due to the gentle nature of this treatment, it is safe and effective for all ages, from newborns to the elderly. However, my educational background and experience includes treating children ages 5 and older. In a typical appointment, my patients will lie on their back fully clothed, while I tune into the gentle craniosacral pulse and rhythm.
Somato Emotional Release (SER) Therapy
SER is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of Craniosacral Therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma. Using the craniosacral rhythm as an indicator, information can be gained from the tissues of the body to recall and release the trauma held in the memory cells of the muscles. This is a gentle, non-invasive technique used to get to the root of discomfort and dysfunction.
Myofascial Release Therapy
Fascia is a layer of tissue that permeates the human body. It interpenetrates and surrounds muscles, bone, organs, nerves, and other structures. Fascia is an uninterrupted, three dimensional web of tissue that extends from head to toe, interior to exterior. CST and/or Myofascial Release Therapy can help release tension within the central nervous system.
